Ulinzi Sharks are keen to dethrone Nairobi Water Queens in the women’s league

As the race for Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league titles continues, men's favourites Ulinzi HC and National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) face a herculean task in Saturday's matches.

Leaders Ulinzi who have a date with Equity Bank are keen to pick a win and continue their unbeaten run.

The Nixon Oyaro-led military side is well aware that the bankers, who held rivals NCPB to a draw last weekend, are no easy opponent.

"We are almost there and this stage needs all the players focused. It is a tough match, one that we will approach with confidence but not complacency," coach Oyaro said, adding that his charges will remain grounded to the last clash.

The military side, playing their penultimate match of the season today, leads the standings with 43 points, two more than the millers who have a match in hand (against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

On their part, NCPB are up against against General Service Unit (GSU) in another encounter that has all the ingredients of a thriller as the paramilitary side looks to end their season on a high.

The Brian Matthews-coached millers, just like Ulinzi, have not lost a match but picked a draw that took them to 41 points and are keen to head to the final clash against the military side with no more tainted record.

In other matches, Desert Scorpions play Strathmore while Hunters take on Technical University of Kenya (TUK) as Daystar hosts Nanyuki.

In the women’s league, Ulinzi Sharks, who are looking to dethrone Nairobi Water at the end of the season play NCPB ladies in a must-win match.

A win for the Emmanuel Kieti-led soldiers puts them on 40 points just like Water and with a higher goal difference before the two sides clash in what could be the title decider on Monday 17 June.
