“A trailblazer from the start, her journey through the ranks of amateur golf has been nothing short of inspiring. She has represented Kenya with distinction in numerous international tournaments, earned accolades across the continent, and emerged as a role model for a new generation of aspiring female golfers,” a statement from PGK reads in part.

Introduced to the sport at the tender age of six by golf instructor and Kenya’s first lady pro player Rose Naliaka, her aunt, Wafula’s star has been on the rise since. Her raw talent became obvious pretty soon, and from the age of 14 onwards, she started to work on her game seriously.

Her decision to turn pro stems from her strong desire to travel the globe playing in the Ladies European Tour (LET). She has had a season to cherish, competing in a field dominated by elite male golfers.

In April, she competed in the TransNzoia Open, standing out as the only female golfer to make the cut, finishing tied 15th overall in this Kenya Golf Union (KGU) sanctioned event.

In May, she placed second in the Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship, a regional championship that brings together top female amateurs from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania. She continued her stellar show at the NCBA Kiambu Open, clinching a tied third-place finish.

“Wafula's induction is a proud and historic moment for us as an organization,” said PGK CEO Robert Muthomi. “Her professionalism, work ethic, and achievements reflect the very best of Kenyan golf. We believe her presence will inspire many more young women to pursue golf at the highest level.”

PGK Chairman CJ Wangai added: “Naomi’s membership is a statement of intent from the PGK that talent, determination, and character will always find a place in our professional ranks. She has earned this moment, and we are proud to walk with her as she begins this exciting new chapter in her golfing journey. We are confident she will open doors for many more women to follow.”

Naomi expressed her excitement and gratitude upon receiving her PGK membership: “This is a dream come true. I am honoured to break this barrier and represent women in professional golf in Kenya. I hope this moment inspires young girls across the country to pick up a golf club and know that they belong on the fairways and greens, not just as players, but as professionals.”

The PGK has recently undertaken significant steps to expand opportunities for women in the sport, including the inclusion of women’s categories in its Equator Tour and greater support for youth development initiatives.

By swinging past stereotypes and nurturing the next generation, she is not just shaping golfers; she is cultivating a legacy where passion and purpose transcend boundaries.
