Beyond the main pool fixtures, organisers have also lined up exhibition matches featuring different Masters age categories

The second leg of the 2026 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Masters Tournament Series is set to light up Mombasa on 16-17 May, with ten veteran teams drawn into two competitive pools, as the race for the overall Masters crown gathers momentum.

Hosted by the Mombasa County Hockey Association (MCHA) at the Mombasa Sports Club, the tournament will bring together some of the country’s most experienced hockey players in a weekend expected to combine fierce competition with the trademark social atmosphere, that has increasingly defined the circuit.

Defending series leaders Impala Veterans arrive in Mombasa carrying the momentum from the opening leg held in Kisumu on 7-8 March, where they lifted the first title of the 2026 campaign after beating Goan Institute in the final.

That victory handed Impala an early advantage in the season standings and established them as the team to beat heading into the second series.

The Nairobi-based side has now been placed in Pool A alongside Greensharks Veterans, Western Hockey Masters, Parkroad Lions, and Wazalendo Masters.

Impala will immediately face a demanding schedule, opening their campaign against Wazalendo Masters before later taking on Western Hockey Masters, Greensharks Veterans and Parkroad Lions during the preliminary phase.

Pool B presents another intriguing battle featuring; Kisumu Veterans, Goan Institute, Nakuru Masters, Blue Ocean Chiefs and Kisumu Masters.

Goan Institute, runners-up from the Kisumu leg, will be seeking redemption after narrowly missing out on the opening title earlier in the year.

Their pool assignments set up several potentially decisive encounters, including matches against Blue Ocean Chiefs, Kisumu Masters, Kisumu Veterans, and Nakuru Masters.

The tournament format will see teams compete in prelimiary matches within their respective pools, with the top two sides from each group advancing to the semifinals.

The semifinal winners will then progress to the final as teams chase valuable series points and the Mombasa title.

Beyond the main pool fixtures, organisers have also lined up exhibition matches featuring different Masters age categories, including Over 40 Men, Over 45 Men, Over 50 Men, Over 35 Women, and Over 40 Women, underlining the tournament’s continued emphasis on inclusivity and lifelong participation in hockey.

The Mombasa leg has steadily grown into one of the most anticipated stops on the Masters calendar, not only because of the level of competition but also due to the unique coastal atmosphere surrounding the event.

With matches scheduled across two days in a compact format, teams will have little margin for error as they attempt to secure semifinal places.

For Impala Veterans, however, the objective is clear, to defend their early lead in the series standings and strengthen their grip on the 2026 Masters campaign.

For the chasing pack, Mombasa presents an opportunity to reset the title race.
