In addition to the two automatic spots are two for swimmers who achieve ‘A’ standard qualification time
Kenya Aquatics will seek to send out 22 swimmers for the Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships scheduled to take place in Angola from 29 April to 6 May.
Kenya is aiming to use the competition to secure its swimmers qualification to this year’s Paris Olympics Games, where the nation has two available automatic spots.
Mozzart Sport can report that Crawford International School swimming head coach Omar Ali Omari will lead Kenya’s team as the Team Manager.
The Mt. Kenya Bloc winner with St. Christopher’s School, Nanyuki, is well recognized for his ability to inspire and motivate young swimmers, and will spearhead the selection process of swimmers expected to be announced next week.
“We will send a strong squad to the event,” Kenya Aquatics secretary general Collins Marigiri said of team preparations. “I believe swimming is picking up after the ban by World Aquatics and judging from our success at the CANA event in December, I believe we will see more good results from our swimmers soon.”
Among the names expected to secure slots - could be 14 if ministry funding is unavailable - include: Swaleh Talib, Sarah Mose and Imara Bella Thorpe, who all had impressive performances in last month’s African Games.
Elsewhere, Kiambu County emerged the winners of the first Central Region Junior Secondary Schools Swimming Championships held at Nyeri Moi Complex Primary School.
Their win in the event that also saw Sports Management team Genesis Sports Limited donate sports equipment to the host school, saw them book a spot into this month's national championships in Machakos.
