The inaugural edition of the continental competition is expected to bring together 12 boys' teams and 10 girls' sides, all gunning for a place on the podium in the inaugural continental event.
"The provisional squads have been selected following a rigorous nationwide talent identification process that included regional trials, school-based kabaddi programs, and competitive events across the country.
This selection marks the first major step in Kenya’s preparations to compete at the continental level, with the final squads to be trimmed to 14 players and four officials per team in due course," reads KKU's statement in part.
In the boys' competition, Kenya has been placed in Group B alongside Tanzania, South Sudan, Malawi, Burundi, and Mauritius. Group A has Uganda, South Africa, Zanzibar, Ghana, Rwanda, and DR Congo.
Meanwhile, the girls' competition pits Kenya against Tanzania, DR Congo, South Africa and Burundi in Group B, while Group A has Uganda, Malawi, Zanzibar, Ghana, and Rwanda, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semifinals.
"The Championship will gather the best young kabaddi talent from across the continent.
For Kenya, this tournament is not just a competition; it’s a chance to showcase our next generation of stars, deepen our kabaddi culture, and cement our position as a growing force in African kabaddi.
We are proud of the dedication and hard work shown by these young athletes. Their journey to Uganda will be one of commitment, teamwork, and national pride," the statement continues.
