Kenya to play host to CAT 14 and Under Tournament

The tourney will act as preparation for the upcoming Africa Junior Team Championships to be held in Cairo, Egypt later this year

Nairobi Club Courts will host the International Tennis Federation/ Confederation of African Tennis 14 and Under Championships.

The first leg of the tournament, is set to kick off on Sunday 16 and run up to 22 April.

The Kenyan team will in the week-long championships hoping to write the wrongs from their previous leg in Uganda that was held last week.

Kenyan representatives then included Reyan Bulsara - who was knocked out in the second leg by Ugandan Tony Okweknimungu after receiving a bye in the first round.

Bulsara Vihaan, suffered a similar fate in the second round - going down to Byanhanga Abrose of Uganda - before ousting Sebbi Arafat of Uganda to finish in 15th spot.

Liya Gikunda on the other side reached the quarterfinals in Kampala, losing to Zimbabwe's Chapapa Kuzivalasha 6-1, 6-0.

“The event is open to all and at the moment we have Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Tunisia and Botswana who have already confirmed participation,” Tennis Kenya executive officer Nancy Nduku said in regards to the ongoing preparations.

In a past hard court event in Togo last month, Seline Ahoya was the highest ranked Kenyan in the 16 and Under category where she placed 14th in the Africa Junior Championships.

The Kenyan leg - set to be divided into two legs - will act as preparation for the upcoming Africa Junior Team Championships to be held in Cairo, Egypt later this year.

Kenya is expected to be represented by Amani Gikunda, Liya Gikunda and Nancy Kawira in the girls' category with Vihaan Bulsara and Bulsara Reyan featuring in the boys' category.
