Kenya U-19 cricket team to camp in India ahead of World Cup qualifiers

Kenya men’s U19 cricket team is expected to hold high quality training sessions in India ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers set to take place in Dar es Salaam from 23-29 July.

As per sources from Cricket Kenya, the Kenyan side will camp at the Omtex ICWC Cricket Institute based in Saphale, Palghar district, Maharashtra for a 10-day period that begins this weekend, one that is set to extend to days leading up to a mini-Kenyan camp that will lead to the qualifying tourney.

The team of 18 called up players plus coaches is all expected to travel, with the first batch leaving the country on Thursday night, while the other hitting the touchline on Friday.

The first batch, as per close sources, consists of thirteen players and the team manager, with the head coach Josephat Irungu and the remaining squad players traveling on Friday.

In India, the team is expected to have a taste of the world's largest indoor cricket training facility, equipped with a gym, presentation room and physio room, all set to improve their overall improvement of cricketing skills.

Additional reports indicated that the Kenyan Government had funded the tour to a tune of Ksh. 2.6 million.

Kenya, in Tanzania, is set to battle it out with Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Namibia and Uganda for the sole ticket to the U-19 World Cup set for Sri Lanka next year.
