Kenyan international stars as Troy wins US basketball title

Felmas Koranga marked her International Women's Day by clinching the Sun Belt Championship with Troy.
Kenyan international Felmas Koranga exerted her dominance as she put on a woman of the match performance to aid Troy Trojans to the Sun Belt Championship following a 73-65 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Koranga rewrote history as she became the first woman to record 22 rebounds in a single Sun Belt game and capped her impeccable performance by contributing 12 points.
The former Shimba Hills player had a strong finish to the game scoring eight of her 12 in the final period of play and contributed 10 rebounds and two blocks in her nine minutes of action in the period.
The win means that Troy will now head to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament for the third time in the last five years as the Sun Belt Conference representatives.

The game was a clash between the Sun Belt’s divisional winners after Louisiana was awarded the Sun Belt regular-season championship with a 13-1 league record compared to Troy’s 15-2 tally.
Koranga who is the younger sister to Kenya Morans Forward Ariel Okal has had an outstanding season and is on the shortlist for The World Exposure Report Junior College Transfer of the Year.
She continued her impressive form from 2020 where she was named the 2020 Women Basketball College Association (WBCA) Player of the Year last season while at Tyler College (since 2018) and voted Region 14 regular season Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Following the win, The Trojans will find out their fate next Monday, March 15, when the entire field of 64 in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
