Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) awaited pre-season tournament, the Super Cup, is upon us with Ulinzi HC out to defend their men's title.
Action is scheduled for two weekends starting Saturday 3 August.
Coach Nixon Oyaro says his side picked valuable lessons in losing the final league match to National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) who retained their title, adding that the squad is ready to defend the Cup.
Pooled against Black Mamba and General Service Unit in pool B of the six-team competition, the military side began their campaign on Saturday 3 August against the former.
"We are well prepared and raring to go. We have used out last match of the season as a benchmark to how we handle the Cup matches. We had a few lapses that when corrected will give us victory. We are well aware other teams have recruited but we are ready for that," head coach Oyaro told Mozzart Sport.
The military side defeated NCPB men in last season's Cup final, a defeat that had been a long time coming as the Millers had dominated the last two seasons before that.
Oyaro has further revealed that his side will also use the matches to try out their three new recruits ahead of the season.
"The beauty of the Cup is giving us the chance to try out different formations ahead of the new season. We managed to go unbeaten until the final league match and, obviously, we want to go all the way this time," the tactician added.
Holders NCPB are pooled against Equity Bank and Strathmore University.
The women's tournament is played in a round-robin format with league champions Ulinzi, Cup holders Nairobi Water, NCPB Ladies, and Rangers taking part.
