The ceremony will send off four Kenyan teams that are set to compete in one of the biggest global gatherings of veteran hockey players, with the tournament taking place from 22 July to 1 August across the Dutch cities of Rotterdam and Schiedam, as well as Breda in the Netherlands and Brasschaat in Belgium.

Kenya will be represented in the Men’s Over-40, Men's Over-45, Men's Over-50, and Women's Over-35 categories.

The men's Over-45 and Over-50 teams will play their matches at HC Rotterdam, while the women's Over-35 side will compete at HC Schiedam as they seek to make their mark against some of the world's leading masters hockey nations.

The 2026 edition of the World Masters Hockey World Cup is expected to attract around 400 teams from across the globe under the theme "Generation of Greatness – We Don't Stop Playing."

The championship celebrates lifelong participation in hockey, bringing together former internationals, club legends and veteran players who continue to compete at a high level.

The competition is being staged across multiple venues to accommodate the various age categories, with athletes ranging from Over-35 to Over-80 taking part during the two tournament windows.

Kenya will be among five African nations represented at the tournament alongside Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana and Egypt, highlighting the continent's growing presence in masters hockey.

The Kenyan teams will be hoping to fly the country's flag high against established hockey nations including the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, England, Argentina, New Zealand, Malaysia, Ireland, Japan and France, among others.

The World Masters Hockey World Cup has become the premier international competition for masters hockey, providing former elite players and experienced club athletes with an opportunity to continue competing on the world stage while promoting friendship, healthy living and the enduring spirit of the game.

Saturday's flag-off at City Park will officially mark Kenya's countdown to the global showpiece, with the teams expected to depart shortly afterwards for the Netherlands ahead of the opening matches on 22 July.
