A study has shown that the LA Lakers star gets by far the most flack by Twitter users

LeBron James received more than 122,000 abusive tweets over the past year, which makes him the most-targeted athlete in the world, a Pickwise study has revealed.

By comparison, the second in the list is Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who's gotten around 32,000 insults on this social network over the same period. He's closely followed by the legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady.

Fighting all sorts of online abuse has been talked about by many high-profile sportspersons, urging the social networks management as well as the authorities to punish the offenders and suppress the vile and harmful behaviour on the internet.

Take a look at the list in full.

Fighting the racists online needs to be stepped up because 16 of 20 most-offended sportsmen are black.

It's interesting that all of the 20 most abused athletes are male. Thankfully, ladies have escaped the wrath of irresponsible Twitter users.
