Marathon record smasher Brigid Kosgei's outstanding performances in 2020 have not gone unnoticed as she has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Following an outstanding 2020, marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei has been shortlisted for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards under the Sportswoman of the Year.
Box Girls Kenya, an organisation set up to empower girls in the country through boxing has also earned a nomination in the Sport for Good Award category.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 Laureus World Sports Awards will be a ‘virtual’ event, in place of the annual gala ceremony.
The awards are to be held in early May to reward honouring individuals and teams from the world of sports along with sporting achievements throughout the year.
Kosgei had a spectacular year retaining her crown at the 2020 London Marathon, fending off strong opposition from 2018 winner Vivian Cheruiyot, Ruth Chepng'etich, Roza Dereje, and Valary Jemeli Aiyabei, all of whom had personal best times under 2:20.

Breanna Stewart who led Seattle Storm to a fourth title in the Women’s National Basketball Association and earning Finals MVP honours and Anna van der Breggen who won the Giro Rosa and the Dutch national road title complete the list.
