The dream is to play volleyball at the highest level, says former KDF man Simion Kosirai

Simion 'Kosirai' Kipkorir has won back-to-back individual awards at the CAVB Africa club championships, a feat that sells him as one of the continent's best volleyball players.

Turning out for Tunisia's Mouloudia Sportive de Bou Salem, the former General Service Unit (GSU) skipper won the best middle blocker in last year’s championships and best opposite this year.

In being named best blocker last year, the former KDF man led his side to the African title, becoming the first Kenyan player to lift the men's title. This year the Tunisian side lost to Al Ahly in the final.

"This season I played alot more as an opposite as we needed a strong player in that position and I am comfortable delivering in either. That versatility helped me win my second continental award and it was a good feeling.

It was a perfect reward for the effort I have put in as a player to be comfortable playing in different positions," Kosirai told Mozzart Sport in an interview from Tunisia.

The national team player hopes that the two awards will open doors for bigger and better deals as his contract with the Tunisians nears conclusion.

Last year, his side qualified for the Club World Championships but did not participate, denying the Kenyan a chance to showcase his craft in a much bigger stage.

"The dream is to play volleyball at the highest level and that was a chance lost. However, I believe my performance in the two editions will open more doors," he added.

The player hinted at a potential move to a European club if he does not extend his stay in the North African country when his contract runs out.
