Morans move one place up in latest FIBA rankings

Olympics gold medalists are top of the world whikle Nigeria headline the Africa rankings.
National men’s basketball team, Kenya Morans, have moved one place up in the latest FIBA world rankings, updated on 9 August 2021, to 11th globally barely a fortnight to their participation in the Afrobasket Championship set for Kigali, Rwanda from 24 August.
However, the team’s placing in the continent has dipped six places to 19th from 13th as more African teams moved up the rankings. Their women counterparts, Kenya Lionesses maintained their positions at 77th globally and 10th in the continent.
Morans were last in action during the final Afrobasket qualifiers window in February where they picked a win against record Afrobasket title holders Angola to book their slot in the upcoming continental championship for the first time in 28 years. The team is currently in residential training in preparation for the said competition.
Kenya Morans move 1 place up to 111 in the world ranking and 19th in Afrika with less than a week before Afrobasket starts.

Nigeria, fresh from the Olympics where they lost all their matches to place fourth in group B, top the continental standings and are 23rd globally despite dropping one position. The former Afrobasket champions are in group C in the Afrobasket alongside Morans, Mali and Ivory Coast.
Ivory Coast moved four places up to 46th globally and fifth in Africa while Mali are ninth and 75th in the world. Uganda were the biggest movers in the latest rankings, leaping to 90th globally, eight places up. The Silverbacks are 13th in Africa.

The side also plays 88th ranked Cape Verde who are 13th continentally.
