A contingent of 9 ladies is poised to make their mark and challenge their male counterparts on the course
As the countdown begins for the much-anticipated Muthaiga Open tournament, golf enthusiasts and players from across the globe are gearing up for three days of exhilarating competition on the prestigious greens of Muthaiga Golf Club.
Set to take place from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10, the event promises to showcase the finest talents in the sport over 54 holes of intense play.
With participation spanning across borders, the Muthaiga Open has attracted a diverse field of 165 golfers representing 7 countries.
Among them, 141 are Kenyan, joined by players from India, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Norway, and Great Britain. Notably, a contingent of 9 ladies is poised to make their mark and challenge their male counterparts on the course.
Among the notable players to watch at the Open is Elvis Muigua, who has dominated the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series by claiming victories at the Sigona Bowl, Great Rift Valley Championship, and the Windsor Classic.
Muigua faces stiff competition from defending champion and clubmate Mike Karanga, promising an electrifying showdown on the course. Others include Adel Balala, John Lejirma, and Dennis Maara, all of whom are poised to showcase their skill and determination in pursuit of victory.
The event qualifies for both the Kenya Amateur Golf Ranking and the World Amateur Golf Ranking. This provides players with a valuable opportunity to enhance their standing on both national and international stages, further elevating the prestige of the event.
The total prize money for the tournament stands at Ksh 350,000, adding an extra layer of excitement and motivation for participants.
The kitty will be distributed among the top 15 players following the conclusion of all three rounds. The winner of the tournament will not only claim the prestigious trophy and title of Muthaiga Open champion but will also be awarded a cash prize of Ksh 89,200.
