Wamukota, an experienced Centre who trained with Thunder ahead of the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) but did not make the final squad.
He joins at a time that the two-time Kenyan champions are chasing a third title, and so far remain unbeaten.
"Nairobi City Thunder welcomes Kenyan international and BAL-experienced center Tom "Bush" Wamukota to the storm. 6'11 of size, experience and presence. Come see him play tonight," the club wrote on their socials.
The 6'11 rim protector is expected to play his first league match for the Bradley Ibs-coached side on Friday, 22 May as they take on Strathmore Blades at Nyayo Indoor Gymnasium from 8pm as the league marks a return to Friday night basketball.
He joins Thunder after a successful stint with Rwandese sides Patriots BBC and APR BBC, having won the league in 2021 with the former before guiding the military side to end their 14 year title drought in September 2023.
The 32-year-old had a quiet 2025 season as he was out of action after reportedly suffering a freak accident, that left him nursing some serious physical injuries before slowly working his way back to the court.
He featured for Kenya Ports Authority in the East Africa Club Championship last year.
He joins a Thunder side that, despite being unbeaten in three seasons, has come threateningly close to dropping their first points, most recently, in their clash against Kisumu Lakeside where they won 71-67.
Following that performance, Thunder wrote to the federation calling on them to enforce professionalism in both officiating and scheduling of games, as the side looks to continue their unbeaten run in the 2026 league season.
