The soldiers now hold a 100-point lead going into the season-ender in Homabay next month

Kenya Defence Forces repulsed a furious attack from Police as Robert Okaka reinforced his status as the top light-heavyweight in East Africa with a dominant show in the 4th leg of the BFK-sponsored Kenya National Boxing League which ended on Saturday 9 November at the Nanyuki Social Hall.

The soldiers fought off defending champions Police to carry the day, winning the fourth leg with 24 points, with Police a close second on 20 points.

Nairobi County was third with 13 points, followed by fourth-placed Prisons 10 points.

Overall, KDF have opened an unassailable lead of 100 points ahead of jointly second-placed Police and Nairobi County, who both have 46 points, while Kibra are third on 23 points.

Struggling Prisons, once a formidable force in Kenya boxing, is fourth overall with 17 points, and will have to do a massive recruitment of new boxers to match the firepower of KDF and Police.

The fifth and final leg of the league takes place from 19-21 December in Homabay.

Okaka overpowers Ochieng in action-packed weekend

Fresh from Kinshasa with a bronze medal in the AFBC African Men's and Women's Boxing Championships, Okaka put up a dominant show to outpoint battle-hardened Humphrey "Jakababa" Ochieng in a keenly contested light-heavyweight bout which saw Ochieng being counted twice and Okaka once by referee David Opiyo.

Throughout the three rounds, Okaka unleashed heavy artillery on the never-say-die Ochieng whose resilience enabled him last the full course.

Amina Martha, Kenya's first ever female boxer to win a medal in the African Games, maintained her unbeaten run locally, stopping a helpless Dorah Mwakacharo in the first round of the bantamweight class.

Other international boxers who won their fights in the finals were: featherweight Shaffi Bakari, female featherweight Pauline Chege, lightweight Ethan Maina, light-welterweight Aloice Vincent, middleweight George Cosby, cruiserweight Hezron Maganga, and heavyweight Peter Abuti.

Nairobi's welterweight Francis Lennox was meanwhile in a class of his own as he secured a deserved points victory over KDF's Fred Omondi.

Following his win, Lennox is expected to represent Mombasa Combined in an invitational club tournament organized by the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) in Tanga starting Monday 11 November 11.
