
Okutoyi advances to Doubles semifinal in Canada

Okutoyi is using the tournament in Canada as her final preparation before taking part in the US Open.
Kenya’s 18 year old tennis history maker Angella Okutoyi continued with her impressive showing in Canada as she advanced to the Doubles semifinals of the J1 Repentigny tournament currently taking place in North America.
Playing alongside her Polish partner Malwina Rowinska, the duo, who are seeded sixth in the Girls Doubles, caused a massive upset as they knocked out top seeded Slovakian pair of Irina Balus and Nikola Daubnerova 6-4, 6-4 to successfully book their place in the last four of the tournament.

Prior to the encounter, Okutoyi/Rowinska, who got a bye in the first round, defeated Canadian pair Eliana Kook and Anna-Raphaelle Serghi 6-4, 6-2 to book their place against the top seeds who had picked a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 against Yujin Kim (Korea) and Honoka Umeda (Japan).
With the quarter final win, Okutoyi and her Polish partner will locks horns with Canadian duo Ellie Daniels and Alexia Jacobs who won their quarter final to advance to the semis.
Okutoyi had also been participating in the Singles category of the tournament but got knocked out in the second round following a 7-6, 6-4 defeat against Slovakia’s Ela Nala Milic.
Okutoyi is using the tournament in Canada as her final preparation before she participates in the 2022 US Open Junior Championship taking place from 4-11 September.
Back in July 2022, Okutoyi went down the history books when she lifted the Wimbledon Girls' Doubles title to become the first ever Kenyan player to win in any Grand Slam Tournament alongside Netherlands’ Rose Marie Nijkamp.
