Oshwal Academy to host second PIPSSA Mini Olympics this year over the weekend

The four counties involved in the championships include Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu and Kilifi.

All is set for this term’s edition of the Private and International Preparatory Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Mini Olympics scheduled to take place on Saturday 17 June at Oshwal Academy in Mombasa.

The games - being held for the fourth time since their inception in 2019 - follow last term’s games held at the Green Steds School in Nakuru and will be the second championships held this year.

The games, are an extension of PIPSSA - Kenya’s plan to popularize sports across the country and after, several swimming events in Kiambu County, the organization will now be making a stop in the Coastal region for the first time this year.

“We are more than committed to revolutionize and develop sports talents in line with the Government initiative of Talanta Hela and promoting talents,” David Weru, who is the coordinator of PIPSSA Mini Games said on Friday. “We are also grateful that most schools have now embraced sports tourism in order to spice up implementation of curriculum that emphasizes outdoor and extra curricular activities. We aim for sports development.”

Teams expected to participate in the Mini-olympics will come from four counties including; Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu and Kilifi.

Representing Nairobi county will be Nova-Pioneer School, Kiota School, Potterhouse School, Kitengela International School and Foresight Academy.

Sand Piper on the other hand will be among the home sides alongside the hosts - Oshwal Academy.

Team and individual awards will be awarded to the winners of the select sports disciplines to be played including; swimming, soccer, basketball, archery, chess, skating and taekwondo.

PIPSSA Kenya is also expected to organize another major multi-sports event in Mombasa in the first week of October dubbed the PIPSSA Nationals Sports Tournaments that will prelude the London Cup and East African Chipkizi Cup set to attract teams from East Africa converging at Braeburn Arusha.
