Rishit Ravat, rated 1790 from Victoria Chess Club, won the overall title at the East Africa Junior Chess Championships which came to an end at Aga Khan Academy on Sunday.

It was the third time in a row that Ravat won the trophy, a testament to the ground he has covered in the last two years.

He first took part in the East Africa Junior Chess Tournament in 2023 with a modest rating of 1276.

Despite being a newcomer, he stunned everyone by winning the title with a stellar TPR of 1576, earning 54 Elo points in the process.

In 2024, he returned stronger, rated 1557, and secured his second consecutive title boasting a TPR of 1552.

His Elo gain that year was modest—just 8 points—but it was a testament to his steady growth and determination.

Fast forward to 2025, and Rishit was a man on a mission. With a rating of 1790, he dominated the tournament, scoring 6.5/7 points.

At one point, his performance rating soared to an awe-inspiring 2550, cementing his status as one of Kenya’s top junior players.

He ultimately concluded the tournament with a TPR of 2050 and gained 67 Elo points, becoming the first junior in East Africa to win the title three consecutive times.

Ravat credits his success to the unwavering support of his parents.

They have been instrumental in my journey providing encouragement and ensuring that I have access to top-notch training,” he said.
