During the national trials in Kasarani this year, he did not meet the qualifying times for the February universality event in Doha
The Kenya Sports Dispute Tribunal is on Tuesday 12 December expected to decide the fate of Kenyan swimmer Ridhwan Mohammed, who presented a case wanting to be included in the Kenyan team scheduled to take part in next year’s World Swimming Championships in Doha.
The tribunal, after listening to the Kenya Aquatics Federation submission on Monday, is expected to rule on whether Mohamed should be included in Team Kenya or not.
The Doha event, set for February, is one of the qualifying events for the Olympic games to be held in Paris next year, and the deadline for entering teams is Tuesday at midnight.
The Kenya Aquatic Federation argued in its submission on Monday that they have already selected another swimmer to take part in the event.
The federation argued that Mohammed had not proved his competence to be entered in the world event as he failed to get the required timings during the qualifiers.
Through his lawyer Japheth Munyendo, Mohammed argued that there was no evidence to show that another swimmer had been entered for the Doha Championships.
“The Federation is only informing the court now that another swimmer has been entered for the event when we brought up the issue. However, even while saying that, they have not brought any evidence to support their claim,” he argued.
Last month, Mohammed shattered three national records during the UK swimming championship including in the 200m freestyle where he set a new record of 1:51.08.
He also claimed a new record in the 800m freestyle clocking 8:22.39 shattering a previous record of 8:27.16 previously held by Ivan Hart.
The third record was the 400m freestyle which was previously held by Jason Dunford that stood at 3:59.13 by clocking 3:58.78.
After setting the three records, Mohammed and other swimmers from the diaspora were invited for trials ahead of the Doha championships.
During the national trials he did not meet the qualifying times for the World Championships.
