
Supermarlins crowned Kiambu Aquatics Invitational champions

The gala attracted over 30 teams with swimmers jostling for positions in next month's National Swimming Championships
Supermarlins emerged overall champions of the Kiambu Invitational Swimming Championships held over the weekend at Regis Academy, Runda.
The swim club, which dominated last year’s Kiambu Level One and Minnows Championships, amassed a total of 84 medals, having won a leading 31 golds, 29 silver, and 24 bronze.
NextGen Multi-Sport Academy were second with 48 medals - 28 of them being gold - with Crawford International School wrapping up the top three positions with 67 total medals.
In regards to individual men and women categories, NextGen led the way for men with 29 medals, with Supermarlins dominating the women’s side with 42.
The event, which attracted more than 30 teams, was the first Kiambu Aquatics event of 2025, and was held alongside another invitational championship in Meru.
All records were included in the national database, with the gala acting as a crucial qualifier for the Kenya National Swimming Championships scheduled for 15-16 February at the Kasarani Aquatic Arena.

Sifa Mathia of Supermarlins and Barack Laja (Orca) were crowned winners of the 7 and Under categories, while Nadia Nuru (Aqua Shark) and Blaise Rumu (Orca) scooped the 8-9 years individual scores.
Nuru was quickest in the 50 SC meter backstroke clocking 52.73, with Rumu emerging top in the breaststroke event timing 51.30.
The 18 and Over category was meanwhile dominated by Zetech University Tritons, who took both men's and women titles through Prince Wise and Naomi Kibet.
Lakisha Waswa of Dashing Dolphins won the 14-15 women category, with Murori Muthomi clinching the men’s title for Crawford with an unassailable 66 points.
Aga Khan Academy scooped the mixed 9 and Under 200 SC Meter freestyle relay title with Orca and NextGen winning the 10-13 and 14 and Over categories.
In other news, the Moi Educational Centre will host the PIPSSA Kenya Invitational Swimming Gala next weekend, with six age-group categories on the lineup.
The event will serve as a qualifier for the Inter-County Sports Challenge scheduled for 8-9 March at St. Christopher's School Nanyuki.
