The top two teams from the tournament will gain Promotion to Group Two while the team that finishes bottom gets relegated to Group IV.
The largely inexperienced Team Kenya sent to the 2022 Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament held at the Tennis Club de Bachdjarah in Algeria from 10-13 August confirmed their worst fears as they suffered relegation to Group IV following their 2-1 playoff loss against Benin.
Having finished bottom in Pool B which also consisted of Morocco, Namibia and Algeria, Kenya, who were led into the tournament by head coach Francis Rogoi, had a last chance to at least preserve their status in Group III as they dropped to the deciding relegation playoff match.
Tough day in office, we go down 0-3 against Morocco. We play Algeria tomorrow.

The playing quartet of Kael Shah, Keean Shah, Albert Njogu and Derick Ominde however came undone as they lost 2-1.
Benin’s Patrick Agbo beat Keean Shah 6-0, 6-3 in the first match before Alexis Klegou ensured no way back for Kenya with a 6-1, 6-1 dismantling of Kael Shah. The 2-0 lead meant that Albert Njogu and Derick Ominde’s 7-6, 7-5 win over Agbo and Sylvestre Monnou was a mere consolation.
In all the group games, Kenya failed to record a single win as they finished bottom of the pile. They started their campaign with a 2-1 loss to Namibia.
A superior Morocco, who topped pool B, then swept them 3-0 before Algeria drove the final nail in Kenya’s coffin with a 1-2 defeat.
