Top Kenyan swimmers and nations will grace the Kenya Aquatics National Swimming and Open Water Championships set for the weekend of 31 May to 1 June at Kasarani Stadium.
Kenya Aquatics Secretary General Collins Marigiri on Thursday, 15 May, confirmed that the nation’s leading talents - including 2019 African Games bronze medalist Maria Brunlehner - will be in action for the two-day championship slated to act as a qualifier for the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on 11 July to 3 August.

Brunlehner, who made her Olympic Games debut last year in Paris, is set to be joined by Kenyan swimming sensation Mohammed Ridhwan, who is also an Olympian and holder of three national records.
Imara Bella Thorpe, daughter to Conrad Thorpe, is also on the lineup, which will also include a collection of young prodigies including: Sara Mose, Haniel Kudwoli, Adam Mensch, Shaka Gikunda, Stephen Ndegwa and Nathan Matimu.
Kudwoli, 17, and Ndegwa, 21, recently (April) made their mark outside Kenya, putting up decent performances at the 2025 South African National Aquatic Championships in Gqeberha.
“The selection criteria are rigorous. We are not leaving anything to chance. Only the best will represent the country in Singapore,” Marigiri told The Star about the quality of Kenyan swimmers in the event.
“We are looking at the qualification times and world ranking points to see if we can have a mixed relay team for the global championships,” he added.
Meanwhile, swimmers from Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Zambia will also take part in the competition, with the view being to “spice-up” the event.
“The swimmers from the three countries will make the event very competitive,” Marigiri said.
“I am confident we will see various personal and national records. We have a strong rivalry with our East African brothers. I’m confident it will be a hard-fought event,” noted Marigiri.
At the same time, Kenya Aquatics has confirmed a number of top swimming clubs that will duel for the Kiambu Aquatics Sprints and Relays Championships scheduled for 24-25 May in Regis School, Runda.
Among the institutions that have already confirmed participation include: MPesa Foundation, Otters Swim Club, Orca Swim Club, Sabis School, Aqua Shark, Light International School, Supermarlin and Crawford School.
