Four tri-athletes, two men and two women will compete at the Games.
Despite missing the podium at last weekend's Kenya Triathlon Federation national trials for the Commonwealth Games, Josette Njeri, bagged her ticket to Birmingham by virtue of being the top seeded female tri-athlete in the country.
Njeri, who finished in fourth place at the trials, says she is both excited and nervous about competing at the global stage against some of the best athletes in her discipline.
"It is a mixture of feelings having qualified for the Commonwealth Games. I am super nervous going up against top, established athletes and at the same time it is exciting knowing I will be on the same playing field with the best. Some of them are people I look up to.
All in all, I am looking forward to it. Getting new experiences competing on the world stage and learning new skills from the top ranked competitors there," offered Njeri in an interview.
The University of Nairobi (UoN) scholar, studying medicine and surgery says she did better than she had expected during the trials bit admitted to have struggled in the swim and run.
Njeri was returning to competition after a nasty crash two months ago during a cycling training session. However, she is confident of being at the top of her game before heading for the Games.
"In addition to a few stitches on my scalp my hip muscles were also injured and that meant I had to stay off for a while. I am, however, recovering well and will be ready for competition in July," added Njeri.
