Five Kenyan team, two men and three women's side, will compete in the 22-team championship.

As Kenya hosts this year's Hockey Africa Cup Club Championships at the Sikh Union Club, Kenya Police HC skipper Victor Wekesa has expressed optimism in the team's chances to lift the continental title.

The team is set to go up against eleven other teams in a 12-team men's competition, while the women's category has attracted ten, in the event set for 13 to 19 February.

"We are finalising our preparations, well aware the level of competition will be higher in this championship so we have to be ready.

The last time we took part in this event we lost on shootouts and that was a lesson learned.

Our biggest undoing has been our finishing and I am confident we are now well prepared and equipped for this," Wanyama offered in an interview with Mozzart Sport

While Police lost the national title to nemesis Butali Warriors, a loss they have know for far too long as they last lifted the title in 2017, the skipper says the focus will not be the local rivalry.

"Losing is part of sport. We have, however, taken some lessons from the loss in the local league and have worked on our shortcomings and I believe the difference in performance will be evident," he added.

Wanyama adds that their experience from playing and winning last year's invitational Gold Cup tourney in Nairobi will come in handy.

"We played Ghana's Exchequers in the Gold Cup and that was an eye opener on how to handle these foreign teams. We lost 4-1 in our first encounter but were able to turn the results around when we met in the final.

We will use some of the lessons and experience we picked from that tournament in this championship," he continued.
