Kenya will take on Algeria in the round of sixteen

Wafalme Stars registered their first win in the ongoing CAVB African Nations Championships after rallying from behind to edge Ghana 3-2(23,25,25-21,16-25,25-17 and 15-11) on Wednesday evening.

Prior to the game, the Kenyan boys were seeking to bounce back after losing to Libya in straight sets (25-23,25,22, and 25-12) on Tuesday, leaving their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage hanging by the thread.

Gideon Tarus charges were hoping to redeem themselves after losing 3-1 (22-25,20-25,26-24 and 17-25) to Cameroon in the opener.

Reacting to the win, Tarus hailed his charges for the fighting spirit they depicted against Ghana.

"I am happy with the win, our first in the tournament. I am equally impressed with the fighting spirit the players had. I am sure, we will play well in the next game," said Tarus.

While Wafalme will be glad to have secured the first win in Cairo, Ghana are still in search of their first as they lost to Libya and Cameroon and as a result, the West Africans finished bottom of Group C with no points.

Wafalme will take on Algeria in the round of sixteen while Ghana will take on Egypt.

Meanwhile, Libya advanced to the quarters after beating Cameroon 3-1 to finish top of group A. Cameroon will face Burundi in the round of sixteen. Tunisia topped Group B with nine points.
