This is the second Cup title for millers since inception five seasons ago.

Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league champions are also the Super Cup winners after beating rivals Ulinzi HC 29-26 in an entertaining encounter played at Nyayo Stadium Court.

The Danstun Eshikumo-led side were a cut above the soldiers as they showed impressive endurance against a resilient opponent for the win.

"We knew this would be a tough and close encounter and as such, we had to balance the two halves. We played a close game in the first half and had enough energy for the second half, hiding on to our lead for the win.

This is a good start to our season and it has given us the opportunity to identify areas that we need to work on ahead of the new season," offered coach Eshikumo.

The first half was a see-saw, the match tied on numerous occasions but it was the millers who led by a solitary goal going into the break at 15-14.

NCPB unleashed their secret weapons in Robert Maraga and Francis Sande in the second half, the two scoring four goals a piece to add to skipper Timothy Kirimi's six in the win. William Malui scores three for the side.

Despite the loss, Frank Kiplagat gave a stellar performance for the soldiers, scoring six with Noah Cheruiyot and Kelvin Imo adding five a piece.

"This was an exciting and tough match. Ulinzi are a worthy competitor and we knew it would not be an easy win. We had to fight and keep to the game plan to the last whistle. This is a good start to our season and we will be hoping to maintain the same momentum for the title defence," offered Clinton Maiko

While they came short in their quest for the Cup title they last won in 2016, Ulinzi maintain that finishing second is something to be proud of.

"We were fifth in the regular season and this is definitely an improvement. There were several dynamics that might have affected our performance this season, including a change in the technical bench. However, we are now settled and I believe this is a good start to a better season ahead," said Ulinzi captain James Ragen
