Zetech are third on the log led by holders KPA
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women's league title hopefuls Zetech Sparks got back to winning ways, picking a massive 83-25 win against a seemingly hapless Kenyatta University (K.U) side, Oryx.
Sparks were last in action a month ago away in Mombasa where they faced off with holders Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) for their only loss of the first leg so far.
Against Oryx, coach Maurice Obilo needed his charges to restore the faith he has in them and they did going out hard to dominate the match 25-08, 16-06, 22-07, 20-04.
"We struggled a bit in this match as we are lacking in match fitness, having not played in four weeks. It was, however, a good build-up for next weekend's action where we play two matches against tougher teams.
We play Dynamites, Africa Nazarene University Panthers next weekend and finish the first leg against Eagle Wings, matches that we will look to win so this victory gives us the needed momentum for those games," offered coach Obilo.
Meanwhile, Panthers bounced back after Saturday's loss to Storms to pick a 56-31 win over visiting Kisumu Lady Bucks.
The Mike Oluoch-led varsity side started the match strong, as they were chasing just their fourth win in eight matches, scoring 11-07 for a four-point advantage in the first period.
The second quarter ended 16-10 in favour of the Rongai-based Panthers to take a ten-point advantage to the break.
Oluoch's charges did not let the lead stop them as they played for a 17-06, 12-08 wins in the third and final periods for the massive victory.
"We were up against a more experienced side so we had to play better defense and use our speed against them and it worked. We have new players and we are still trying to see who fits where so it will take some time before we can churn the desired results in all matches. It is work in progress so we take the win," offered Panthers' skipper Nicole Mikwa.
Elsewhere, University of Nairobi (UoN) Dynamites completed their weekend action with victory over Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Lynx in a 42-38 outcome.
The varsity side had won their Saturday match against Lady Bucks more convincingly in a 64-40 outcome.
"I knew we would struggle against Lynx as they are a better team than Bucks but I will take the win. We have to regroup and prepare for the next matches," offered Dynamites coach Juma Kent.
