Amonde is currently the head coach of KCB Rugby and the strength and conditioning coach for Kenya Sevens, while also being a husband to Damaquelyn Omwenga and a father of three.

Kenya Sevens are preparing for the HSBC SVNS Division II at Nyayo National Stadium, slated for Saturday, 14 to Sunday, 15 February, while KCB Rugby are competing in the Enterprise Cup, and the 2025/26 Kenya Cup, aiming to reclaim the title they last won in 2021, when Amonde was still a player.

“It is very difficult. I’ve come to realise that coaching here (KCB), being involved with the national team, and meeting expectations at home needs a lot of balance.

I try my best to manage my time whenever I’m here and still create time to be with my family,” Amonde told Mozzart Sport.

So, what does a day in the life of the former KCB Rugby flanker look like?

“My days are demanding. When I’m not at the KCB Sports Club, I start at 5 am with Kenya Sevens until midday. I then get a few hours of rest before reporting to KCB from 3 pm to 8 pm.

After that, I rush home to spend time with my kids before they go to bed. Monday to Saturday are packed. Sunday is my day to go to church and truly bond with my family,” he said.

The decorated flanker who made his debut at the 2006 South Africa 7s has won numerous titles with the Kenya national 7s team, Shujaa, and KCB Rugby.

Amonde has attained almost everything there is to be achieved in rugby 7s. He has been a key player for both his club and country.

He was appointed Kenya 7s skipper in 2012, a position he held for over eight years, making him the longest-serving Shujaa captain.

The skipper helped Kenya Sevens to qualify for the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup, leading the team to a fourth-place finish.

He was also part of the Kenya Sevens squad that took part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He played an instrumental role in Kenya's historic 2016 HSBC World Sevens series triumph in Singapore.

Kenya defeated Fiji 30-7 to bag their maiden title. He also helped Shujaa qualify for their first Olympic Games in 2016.

Amonde announced his retirement from club rugby in July 2022, a few weeks after retiring from the national side.

He now coaches KCB Rugby, with his latest triumph being the Dala 7s title win. The Bankers defeated Kabras RFC 17-5 in a nail-biting final.
