Kenya 7s national team, Shujaa, had a rollercoaster day at the Cape Town Sevens on Sunday, 8th December, at Cape Town Stadium, showcasing glimpses of brilliance but ultimately falling short to Argentina, 26-14, in a crucial match.
In the opening minutes, speedster Patrick Odongo Okong’o stole the show when he picked up the ball from a ruck in his own 22 and dashed the length of the field to score a spectacular try, which Nygel Pettersan Amaitsa successfully converted.
Shujaa continued their momentum with another breakaway effort. George Ooro capitalized on a loose ball and offloaded it to Kevin Wekesa, who charged through the defense to score another try.
However, Shujaa couldn't maintain their energy as Argentina staged a dominant comeback. German Schulz put Argentina on the scoreboard in the fifth minute, and Matías Osadczuk added another try just two minutes later. Agustín Fraga sealed Argentina’s first-half dominance with a converted try, giving them a 19-14 lead at the break.
In the second half, Argentina continued their assault, with Fraga and Facundo Pueyrredón adding tries to extend the lead to 26-14. Despite Shujaa’s early spark, Argentina's defense held firm, securing their victory.
