Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 09.12.22. | 15:59
The team will face New Zealand and Spain on Saturday.
The men’s national rugby 7s side, Shujaa, were made to pay for their school boy errors in their Cape Town 7s Group C opening match as they lost 19-5 to Argentina on Friday afternoon.
Having managed to get their first win of the 2023 season back in Dubai last weekend, the Damian McGrath coached side were hoping to get the perfect start on familiar territory but, despite a much changed Los Pumas side, the Kenyan boys failed to take any advantage as they were punished for making three knock on errors which the Argentines duly capitalized on to score all their three tries.

With the first game of the tournament having gotten off to a slow start by both sides, it is Agustin Fraga who ensured Argentina got the first points on the board following great ball movement from side to side by their team which ultimately created space at the corner for Fraga who dotted down for a 5-0 lead following a missed conversion.
A second knock on by Herman Humwa in the space of two minutes was once again punished by the Argentines who stretched their lead following a well worked scrum move that ended up with Fraga bagging his brace. This time Tobias Wade converted to gift Argentina a 12-0 lead halfway through.

Upon the second half’s resumption, Kenya managed their first points on the board after Denis Abukuse, who had replaced the erratic Humwa in the first half, forced his way over the line following Kenya’s first meaningful attack in the game.
A well worked scrum move started by the fresh pair of legs injected by Daniel Taabu squared the ball to Kevin Wekesa who made a strong carry that was finished by Abukuse to cut the deficit to 12-5.
However, with the new found momentum, Kenya once again shot themselves in the foot just seconds after restarting the game as Taabu knocked the ball forward handing easy possession back to Argentina which they duly accepted and landed a third try under the posts by Juan Molinuevo and converted by Alejo Lavayen for a 19-5 win.
Kenya will now face New Zealand and Spain in the remaining two Group C games on Saturday.
