The Water Buffalo, as he is popularly known in rugby circles, exited the team back in August for a career opportunity in Canada.
Kenya 7s ace Alvin ‘Buffa’ Otieno is set to make a sensational return to the men’s national rugby 7s team following his sudden exit from the Damian McGrath currently coached side after his appearance at the 2022 season ending Los Angeles 7s outing that took place back in August this year.
After that final tournament of the 2022 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the fan favorite renowned for his massive fends and fearless combative attacks shockingly informed the technical bench that he would not be continuing with the team as he had landed another opportunity in Canada.

With the decision, Buffa missed the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament held in Cape Town, South Africa and has not been part of the team that started the 2023 campaign with his replacement proving hard to find.
Following the near four month absence, Mozzart Sport can now reveal that the player is in line to make his comeback to the team starting from this December in a bid to help Shujaa who have had a dismal start to contend with in the opening three legs of the new campaign.

“Alvin Otieno is coming back to the team as from mid-December which is huge news because he has been a big miss for the team. We have all kept in touch with him and the information I have is that he will be coming back and should be available for selection once again,” a source told Mozzart Sport.
In his absence, McGrath roped in youngsters Dennis Abukuse (Menengai Oilers) and George 'Japolo' Ooro (Strathmore Leos) but a substantial replacement jas yet to be found.
How have Shujaa performed so far?
The Damian McGrath currently coached side had a woeful start to the season as they finished last in the season opening outing held in Hong Kong back in November where they finished in last place, garnering only one point after losing all its matches.
In the second outing that took place in Dubai, Shujaa managed an 11th placed finish where they took five points for their exploits.
In the recently concluded Cape Town 7s, the team finished in 13th place which gave them three points leading to a total of nine points after the three outings.
