Shujaa reign over Japan
Japan initially took the lead with a try by Shotaro Tsuoka.
However, Kenya quickly responded when Kevin Wekesa powered through for a try, and Tony Omondi's conversion gave Kenya a 7-5 lead.
Japan regained the lead before halftime with a converted try by Moeki Fukushi, bringing the score to 12-7 in their favor.
Kenya dominated the second half, starting with John Okoth's try following a break on the right side.
Omondi's conversion put Kenya ahead once more.
Capitalizing on a Japanese error, Patrick Odongo scored Kenya's third try, with Omondi's conversion extending their lead to 21-12.
Maintaining their momentum, Chrisant Onjwang came off the bench to break through the defense for the final try of the match. Another successful conversion sealed Kenya's victory at 28-12.
Kenya will next face Portugal in their second match at 3:04 p.m.
The team has been in good form since the Challenger Series kicked off in January.
They won the first leg in Dubai after edging Chile 12-5 before coming in third in Montevideo after defeating Chile 31-12 in the third-place playoff.
They currently sit second on the table and will be hoping to continue with the fine run and win this final leg.
If they perform well in Munich, they will make the top four and secure their spot in the final playoff-cum World 7s promotion in Madrid in June.
Lionesses on the other hand, still have to play Belgium (4:32 PM) and Mexico (6:52 PM).
