KCB and Homeboyz set to clash again as Kenya Cup week 3 looms

Reading Time: 3min | Fri. 09.12.22. | 10:30

Kenya Cup action continues this Saturday, 10th December 2022 with six matches lined up across the country, all set to kick off at 3pm.

KCB RFC VS HOMEBOYZ RFC – RUARAKA GROUNDS, 3PM

Ruaraka Grounds will play host to what has become one of the most common rivalries in recent times, when unbeaten sides KCB RFC and Homeboyz RFC lock horns. Their previous meeting in December 2021 ended when Homeboyz RFC were on the receiving end of an 18-10 defeat. This year, Oscar Okaron will be keen to break the jinx and register his third consecutive win of the season. KCB RFC on the other hand enter the weekend in a confident mood following their outstanding performance last weekend. Backed by a famously noisy and supportive home crowd, the Bankers will be sure to put on a show.

According to KCB RFC Assistant Captain Darwin Mukidza, the team morale built during grueling training sessions at Ruaraka will be directed to the game come Saturday. Although they have twisted some of their styles in preparation for this huge encounter, Darwin is optimistic that his teammates will keep the roar on.

“We need to keep our tempo going and thrive on the winning we started the season with. Each game is approached differently from the other, and we have twisted one or two to suit our play against Homeboyz RFC. We’ve always had good seasons throughout the years and the picture looks good so far.” Darwin told Mozzart Sports.

MWAMBA RFC VS BLAK BLAD – STRATHMORE UNIVERSITY, 3PM

Having defeated the odds to make it to fourth on the log, Blak Blad will hope to shatter more records when they face Mwamba RFC this weekend.

The students have overpowered Mwamba RFC before, and the hosts meanwhile, will know that victory this weekend is imperative if they are to advance to the playoffs. The men in black managed a losing bonus in Nakuru last weekend, and will be aiming to prolong their hopes of good performance.

CATHOLIC MONKS VS MEAN MACHINE – CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY, 3PM

This is one meeting that will set pulses racing. It will be a repeat of the 2021/22 KRU Championship final when Mean Machine edged Catholic Monks 27-19.

The two sides are still adapting to the Kenya Cup side and this match will give fans a sober look of the teams’ progress. Whoever wins this will register their first win of the season.

MENENGAI OILERS VS MMUST – NAKURU SHOWGROUND, 3PM

MMUST have registered not-so-good performances in their previous matches, and this trip to Nakuru presents them with a chance to register not only their first win of the season, but also bragging rights for overpowering log leaders Menengai Oilers. However, Oilers are well-oiled, and chances of beating them at their home ground remain close to zero.

KABRAS RFC VS KENYA HARLEQUINS – KAKAMEGA SHOWGROUND, 3PM

Kenya Harlequins will travel to the Kakamega Showground to correct the ‘silly mistakes’ they made last weekend in an attempt to down the Sugarmen.

Seated second-last on the log without a single point will be their weekend motivation to impress. Kabras RFC have not tasted a loss this season, and will be keen to stretch their winning run as they welcome Paul Murunga’s charges.

NAKURU RFC VS STRATHMORE – NAKURU ATHLETIC CLUB, 3PM

Strathmore Leos might have ground to make up for their 25-15 loss to Homeboyz RFC last weekend, but Nakuru RFC are sitting pretty, waiting to blank the visitors in order to climb above them on the log. The hosts have a chance to overpower the students as they capitalize on the home advantage.
