Kenya 7s men's team, Morans, ended their day on a low after suffering a narrow 7-5 defeat at the hands of Madagascar in the final pool match played at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius on Saturday.
The Kenyans headed into the match with high hopes after two dominant wins: 40-0 over hosts Mauritius and 25-0 over Nigeria. They were aiming for a perfect record of 3/3 wins.
However, this was not to be as they faced a fast-paced, tactical, and clinical Madagascar side well-prepared for the challenge.
The Makis forced the Kenyans into several infringements, and their defense made it difficult for the Morans to score. They managed their sole try thanks to Joel Inzuga. Kenya will proceed to the quarters as the second-placed team in the group, while the Makis top the group with a 100% win record.
South Africa topped Pool C with a 100% win record. The Blitzboks A side scored 40-5 against Algeria, adding to their wins over Zambia and Zimbabwe, securing nine points. Uganda also managed a 100% record, defeating Burkina Faso 29-0. Nobert Okeny set up Timothy Kisiga with an offload for the lead.
