Their clash with Ghana will rekindle memories of last year’s group stage encounter at the 2024 edition in Accra, where Kenya cruised to a commanding 41-0 victory.

Last year, the Lionesses came agonizingly close to continental glory but fell 12-7 to South Africa.

The Kenyan side went unbeaten throughout the group stages and semifinals.

This year, they have the home advantage on their side and will aim to take one step further and reclaim the African crown they last won in 2018.

The 2025 edition also carries extra significance as it doubles up as the African qualifier for the 2026 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, with only the tournament winner earning the coveted slot.

In Pool A, 12-time champions South Africa headline the group alongside Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

The Springbok Women have dominated the competition since its inception, winning every edition they have participated in since 2006.

Uganda, fresh from a runner-up finish at the Safari 7s, will feature in Pool C alongside Zambia and Burkina Faso, while Pool D comprises Madagascar, Tunisia, and Egypt.
