With everything to play for and mouth-watering prize money, there should be no shortage of drama this weekend as Kenya’s best teams gather together for Kisii 7s.

All roads will head to the famous Gusii Stadium from May 6-7 in what will be a nerve-wracking weekend as Kisii 7s kick off at the ever-green Kisii County. The tournament has attracted a total of 16 teams who will battle it out for the ultimate prize money of Ksh150,000.

The pools will be constitutes as follows:

POOL A

In Pool A, former Kenya Cup side Kisii RFC will battle it out with Kisii Polytechnic, Rongo University, and Kibabii University.

POOL B

Pool B features now Championship side MMUST, Homabay RFC, Kifaru RFC, and Oscar Okaron’s Administration Police. The AP will be looking to bounce back after they failed to climb to the Championship level following a 9-3 defeat to Kitale RFC in the quarterfinals.

POOL C

Pool C is arguably the pool of death. The pool has Kenya Morans, Sigalagala RFC, Rugby on the Road, and Kisii University. The last time Kenya Morans were in action was during the 2021 Safari 7s where they labored past spirited Red Wailers 12-5 to win a bronze medal at third position.

Rugby on the Road on the other side won the 2022 Chebarbar 7s held on July 31 at the Eldoret Sports Club. They edged Arsonists Wazalendo 34-10 to win Ksh.140,000.

Sigalagala RFC are a notable force. They failed to qualify for the Championship level after an 18-13 loss to Mombasa in the semi-finals.

Allan Kasiti’s charges will be keen to impress in Kisii. Kisii University will be enjoying noisy home support and will be capitalizing on the home advantage, keen to claim home glory.

POOL D

Pool D has Kisumu RFC, Nairobi Boys, Stallions, and Vihiga Granites. Kisumu RFC will be looking to extend their fine run after they were recently promoted to the top tier. The side will however face resilient Vihiga Granites who have wowed in the past. The proximity to each other makes them worthy opponents in this pool.

Meanwhile, Nairobi Boys will be keen to fly Nairobi’s name high, this being their debut tournament appearance. Stallions too will be looking to make a statement.

Kisii 7s is making a comeback after seven years in the cold. The last edition was held in 2016 with Homeboyz RFC emerging winners over Impala RFC.
