The Simbas were set to play Valke in Kenya at the RFUEA Grounds
A change has been made to the venue of the second last Simbas Currie Cup match that was previously set for May 27 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi. The match will now be played at the Barnard Stadium, Kempton Park, South Africa on the same date.
According to an announcement made by Valke on their social media handles, Kempton will host a doubleheader with the Kenya Simbas vs Valke match expected to kick off at 4.00 pm (EAT) before paving the way for the second match pitting Kempton Park and Benoni.
“It is almost game day, who are you supporting?!” the club announced.
“15:00 Valke vs Kenya
17:00 Kempton Park vs Benoni
Venue: Barnard Stadium, Kempton Park,” the statement added.
Jerome Paarwater’s charges missed their opening Currie Cup matches against Boland Cavaliers and Leopards. They would later fall to San Clemente (33-22) and Eastern Province Elephants (18-7) before bouncing back to win 30-26 against Border Bulldogs. They would however lose to Namibia Windhoek Draught 35-28 in what would be their last away match.
Back in Kenya, Simbas defeated the struggling Zimbabwe Goshawks 48-7 in the match played at the Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday 20.
This means that the Simbas are back to playing without noisy home support. Speaking to Mozzart Sport after Simbas won over 48-7 Zimbabwe, Coach Jerome Paarwater was impressed by the fans’ turnout saying that they played a major role in the Simbas’ emphatic win.
“It was a tough four weeks in Cape Town with no support. At home, I could feel the energy the whole week, and the boys enjoyed eating ugali, and the vibe was big,” Paarwater told Mozzart Sport.
Simbas are currently placed seventh on the log with 12 points while their weekend’s opponents Valke are second with 26 points.
