The Sugarmen head into the encounter at the summit of the standings with 45 points after winning all nine of their matches this season, collecting a bonus point in each of those victories. Their dominance has seen them stretch their unbeaten run in the 15s format to 50 matches, a remarkable milestone they achieved last weekend.

Hosts KCB, however, will be determined to halt that momentum. The Bankers sit second on the table with 43 points. They are also unbeaten this season, meaning Saturday’s contest could play a crucial role in determining who secures home advantage heading into the semifinals.

With both sides boasting quality across the park, several individual duels could shape the outcome of the match.

Samuel Asati vs Barry Robinson (Scrum-half)

The battle at scrum-half promises to be one of the most fascinating contests of the afternoon. Kabras’ experienced Asati will go head-to-head with KCB’s Robinson.

Asati has featured for both Kenya Sevens and the Kenya Simbas, bringing versatility and composure to the position. Naturally a fly-half, he is known for adapting quickly to the demands of the game and reading situations well.

Robinson, on the other hand, is more of a traditional scrum-half who thrives on structure and executing the coach’s game plan to the letter.

With rain expected, pressure will fall heavily on the half-backs, whose decision-making, speed at the breakdown, and accuracy in distributing the ball from the base of the scrum could prove decisive.

Brian Wahinya vs Roy Maruti (Fly-half)

At fly-half, KCB have entrusted the experienced Wahinya, while Kabras have handed the responsibility of orchestrating their attack to the youngster Maruti.

Despite his young age, Maruti has shown maturity whenever called upon. This will be his third meeting with the Bankers, having previously faced them in the 2024/25 Enterprise Cup semifinal and final. Recent starts have further boosted his confidence.

The test now will be his game management, ability to read defensive patterns, and make the right decisions under pressure.

Wahinya, meanwhile, has built a reputation for stepping up in big games. He was part of the KCB side that ended Menengai Oilers’ unbeaten run in Nakuru last weekend and will once again be expected to control territory and dictate the pace of the match.

With slippery conditions likely, the kicking accuracy and tactical awareness of both fly-halves could play a decisive role.

Isaac Njoroge vs Eric Cantona (Full-back)

KCB have retained experienced full-back Njoroge, who will face Kabras’ Cantona.

Cantona earned his maiden Kenya Cup final start during last year’s championship match against Menengai Oilers and will be keen to showcase his attacking ability from the back.

Njoroge, meanwhile, remains one of the most reliable players in the KCB backline. His positional awareness, counter-attacking runs, and ability to field high balls will be key as the Bankers attempt to maintain their unbeaten record. Stephen Osumba is expected to provide cover later in the match.

Vincent Onyala vs Derrick Ashiundu (Wing)

KCB coach Andrew Amonde has rested William Opaka and brought in former Kenya Sevens captain Onyala.

Onyala brings a wealth of international experience and physicality, and his ability to break defensive lines could pose serious problems for Kabras.

The Sugarmen are likely to start Kenya Simbas winger Derrick Ashiundu, who has recently recovered from a nagging injury. Known for his speed and finishing ability, Ashiundu will be eager to exploit any space out wide.

Festus Shiasi vs Griffin Chao (Wing)

On the opposite flank, KCB have handed a start to Kenya Sevens centre Shiasi.

Shiasi impressed during KCB’s victory over Menengai Oilers last weekend, earning the confidence of coach Amonde to feature again.

He will be up against Kabras’ Chao, a proven winger whose pace and sharp footwork have troubled defenses across the league. If Chao finds space, his ability to turn half-chances into tries could prove pivotal.

Andycolle Omollo vs Hillary Odhiambo (Lock)

In the second row, talented lock Omollo will square off against Odhiambo.

Locks play a crucial role in lineouts and scrums, where they provide height, power, and stability. Their responsibilities include securing lineout ball, supporting lifts for jumpers, and providing a strong pushing force in scrums.

Both players will be expected to dominate aerial contests and provide physical presence in open play.

Elvis Olukusi vs Collins Indeche (Blindside Flanker)

Former Kabras stalwart Olukusi will come up against Indeche in what promises to be a physical duel.

The number six role demands relentless tackling, carrying the ball into contact, and supporting both attack and defense. Blindside flankers are often tasked with shutting down opposition attacks and providing physicality around the breakdown.

Indeche is known for his aggressive style and flair, while Olukusi’s calm and composed approach could help KCB maintain structure in tight situations.

George Ooro vs Patrick Lumumba (Openside Flanker)

Another key clash will be between Kenya Sevens captain Ooro and Kabras’ Lumumba.

The number seven jersey is often associated with breakdown specialists whose primary duties include winning turnovers, slowing opposition's ball, and making crucial tackles.

Both players are known for their work rate and ability to influence play around the rucks, meaning whoever wins this battle could give their team a significant edge in possession.

With both sides unbeaten and packed with talent across the park, Saturday’s clash in Ruaraka promises to be a thrilling contest where these individual battles could ultimately decide who walks away with bragging rights and a vital advantage in the Kenya Cup title race.
