Two days of thrilling action and speed were slowly coming to a closure at the Gusii Stadium.

Kisumu RFC emerged 12-7 winners over Nairobi Boys in the highly contested semifinal match staged at the Gusii Stadium on Sunday 7 May.

Kisumu RFC unstoppable force

Kisumu RFC have proven to be an unstoppable force this year. They were promoted to the Kenya Cup side, and their run has been an impressive one so far.

Speaking after the side stormed to the finals, Kisumu RFC head coach Lawrence Buyachi credited the boys’ spirited performance. The former South Coast Pirates Coach said that the secret was keeping it basic.

“What we tried to do against our opponents was keeping it basic, and simple and so far, it is working. We are not under any pressure.

MMUST is an equally tough side, while our boys are still young in the big boys’ league. We are under zero pressure. We know what to do and our boys are full of energy,” Buyachi told Mozzart Sport.

The Lakeside Boys will be seeking to build up on their 15s performance where they whipped Daystar University to make a comeback to the Kenya Cup side after three seasons of absence.

MMUST RFC surprise Rugby on the Road

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology shocked Rugby on the Road 19-12 to qualify for the finals.

The resilient Makakas scored three tries and converted two while Rugby on the Road managed two five-pointers and a conversion.

MMUST were looking to build up on their Bungoma 7s performance where they emerged winners. The side also dropped to the Championship level after a sluggish performance. They were keen to pick a win in Kisii.

In an exclusive with Mozzart Sport after the emphatic win, MMUST team manager Zedrick Isogoro was impressed by the side’s performance, crediting it to their hard work, determination, and teamwork.

“To our fans, we are promising to have the best team that will take MMUST Rugby to another level. Even in the upcoming 7s circuit, we will up our game. Despite the rest of the school being home for the holidays, the rugby players have remained behind to train. The Makaka unit is back,” Zeddy assured.
