Did the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Honorable Secretary Raymond Olendo issue a forged Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) certificate before his election last year?

The document is at the center of a case Olendo has filed at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) against the Union which suspended him three months ago.

Having a clearance certificate is part of the requirements under the Sports Act or those contesting for elections in sports federations.

When the matter came up for hearing on Monday afternoon, the Union while cross-examining Olendo claimed that Metropol Corporation had denied issuing the Secretary a certificate he presented to the Union to allow him contest.

The Union wrote to Metropol and received a reply that they had not issued that particular certificate,” said the Union.

But Olendo insisted that the certificate was genuine and he had written to the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Data Protection Commission complaining against KRU and its chairman Sasha Mutai for allegedly interfering with the document.

Olendo also took issue with Sasha Mutai for trying to force him to resign after he received a reply from Metropol regarding the authenticity of the certificate.

It looked like a premeditated move. The chairman received the reply from Metropol on September 3 at 5p.m and we were supposed to have a board meeting at 9:9:25 am the following day. At 9:30a.m Mutai presented to me a resignation letter to sign over the same.

It looked like a well-calculated move to suspend me and that is why I wrote a complaint to the data commission and the DCI,” he said.

But Olendo could not explain why he had not complained against Metropol after the DCI asked him to take up the matter with the issuing authority.

The hearing will continue on Wednesday morning before the tribunal.
