Kenya rugby women’s team, Lionesses, bowed out of the main cup contention after going down 21-5 to conditioned Belgium in the final pool match played on Saturday, 9 March in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Their performance in Montevideo is a huge drop from their last outing in Dubai where they reached the final stage but went down 19-5 to China after a spirited fight.
The matches so far have exposed the Lionesses' weak areas, and they will have to work extra hard to keep up with their determined opponents.
Lionesses who were in the hunt for a second win in their tournament were coming from a 12-0 loss in the hands of Hong Kong in their opening match.
They then picked their first win of the second Challenger Series after seeing off Papua New Guinea 29-12 in the second pool match played on Friday 8.
This was a do-or-die match for the Lionesses, and the loss meant that they were out of the main cup contention.
The side which is under the tutelage of Dennis Mwanja struggled with lineouts, and breakdowns, areas their opponents capitalized on.
They scored their sole try courtesy of Naomi Amuguni.
They will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they learn their next opponents.
