Munoko was part of the team that defeated Rams 26-6 in their last pool match to successfully pull off the biggest upset of the 2023 Uganda Cup.
Project 61 (P61) Rugby team head coach Shadon Munoko is over the moon after representing Heathens Club in the 2023 Uganda Cup round five fixture that was played on Saturday 16 at the Makerere University Grounds.
Munoko was part of the team that defeated Rams 26-6 in their last pool match to successfully pull off the biggest upset of the 2023 Uganda Cup. They proceeded to the quarterfinals slated for January 2024.
The player/coach was returning to action for the first time since August 2023 when he turned up for the side during the Tororo 7s. He also played for the Heathens during the Rujumba 7s where they won the title, the Fort Portal 7s where they claimed bowl, and the Tororo 7s where they settled for third place.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the former University of Eldoret (UoE) Trojans coach said that he was looking to help the Heathens defend their Uganda Cup title.
"It feels great to be back last I played was Tororo Sevens. We are the defending champions and we are looking to maintain that status quo," Munoko vowed.
Munoko who is a former Mean Machine player further observed that rugby in Uganda was becoming fiercely competitive.
"Uganda rugby is growing quite fast. There is pretty good competition from other teams," he averred.
He led the Trojans during the 2023 National 7s Circuit to see them top the Division II category after six legs.
Before his coaching role, Munoko turned out for 10-time Impala Floodlights winners KCB Rugby where they won mutliple Kenya Cup, Impala Floodlights, Mwamba Cup, and the ESS titles. He was also a hard-running backrower for the varsity side of the University of Nairobi Mean Machine when they won the Impala Floodlights varsity league, KRU Championship league, and the varsity league accolades.
At the same time, Rams Rugby Club is calling on the Uganda Rugby Union fraternity to lend a hand in helping them meet the expenses of their club member, Daniel Balaam Lubangken, who is suffering from colon cancer.
Daniel has been suffering from this condition for close to a year since he was first diagnosed late last year (2022). Since chemotherapy and radiotherapy have not been effective, he has been advised to undergo laparoscopy surgery, which is the only viable option left.
The surgery will cost 9 million Uganda shillings (UGX) post-operation. Other expenses will add to the total amount, making it 13 million Uganda shillings.
Dr. Chung at New Mulango will perform Daniel’s surgery. He will be admitted to the hospital on January 5th, 2024, and operated on January 8th of the same year.
