The club will receive technical support from legendary players Lavin Asego and Collins Injera.

Just one month after leaving the 2021 Kenya Cup champions KCB Rugby, Mark Mshila has joined Mwamba RFC, Mozzart Sport can confirm.

The former KCB assistant and backs coach will serve as Kulabu’s coach for the 2024/25 Kenya Cup campaign.

The announcement was made on Mwamba’s social media channels on Wednesday, 16 October.

“Thrilled to announce that Mark Mshila is the new Head Coach of Mwamba RFC’s men’s team! A former player (1999-2002), Mark’s deep club roots extend to his father, David, one of Mwamba’s founding members. The legacy continues as we head into an exciting season! #KulabuPride #RFamily,” the club posted.

This will not be the first time Mshila will be turning up for Mwamba. He was with the side between 1999 and 2002. Mshila’s father, David Mshila, was one of the club’s founding members, and he will be keen to carry on the legacy.

“David not only captained Mwamba in 1985 but has also served in key roles such as team manager and secretary. The Mshila legacy continues, and we could not be more excited for what’s to come under Mark's leadership,” the club continued.

Mshila replaces Kenya 7s head coach Kevin Wambua, who has led the side alongside Joseph Odindi.

While with KCB, Mshila played a crucial role in securing several Kenya Cup titles for the club. However, the last three seasons have been tough, with KCB falling short in major domestic competitions and winning only the Impala Floodlit tournament.

A former player for Mombasa RFC, Mwamba RFC, and the Kenya national team, Mshila transitioned to coaching after his playing career. His return to Mwamba signals a fresh start for the club as they look to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming season.

His first assignment with the team will be during the 2024 Impala Floodlights. Mwamba will start their campaign against hosts Impala RFC on Saturday, 19 October.

The club will receive technical support from legendary players Lavin Asego and Collins Injera.
