Kenya Harlequins started off the season on a wrong footing losing all their opening three matches
Kenya Harlequins were on the receiving end of Kabras' impressive season finish after they received a 22-8 beating in the semifinal contest held at the Kakamega Showground.
The Quins started off the season on a low, losing all their three opening matches.
They would later quickly adjust and win all their remaining eight matches to qualify for the semi-finals. The loss marked the third time Paul Murunga has failed to lead a team to the finals.
His last attempts were in 2017 and 2018 when he was Homeboyz RFC Coach.
"Coming into this season, we started well, lost a few games but we won the remaining eight games," Pau reflected.
Speaking after the match, Pau hailed his charges performance, revealing that most of the players were already injured going to the semifinals following a tough season. The side has not lost a match this year.
"Today's game was basically tough. Getting into the semi-final after winning eight straight games. It wasn't so easy. The boys have been working so hard and by the time we were coming to the semifinals most of them were already injured. The first two minutes we got two injuries one our prop and scrum half were injured which disabled us a bit and we could not get back into the game," Paul said.
The Quins registered their name first on the scoresheet with a penalty that was drilled in by Henry Ayah. Despite that, Pau revealed that they lost focus, and was hard to regain.
"We lost focus first two minutes but as the game went on we tried to come back to the game but Kabras were a better side, we didn't win," Pau revealed.
On the team's semifinal appearance Pau said: "The semifinals, we attribute the success to hard work from the boys, getting hard in the gym, working hard on the pitch to get to this point," he remarked.
The 2010 Kenya Cup Champions will now go back to the drawing board, right their wrongs, and ensure to bounce back stronger next season.
"We go back, rebuild, and come to the next season hoping to do well and make sure we will fight to the end," he concluded.
The Quins will face Menengai Oilers for the playoffs on Saturday while Kabras and KCB RFC lock horns in Kakamega.
