Quins are currently in the relegation zone as they sit second from bottom.

Eight-time Kenya Cup champions, Kenya Harlequins suffered a 24-10 loss to Menengai Oilers on Saturday as head coach Paul Murunga bemoaned ‘silly mistakes’ made it the clash.

Quins remain winless in the Kenya Cup after starting their season with a 38-0 whitewash against KCB RFC leaving them in the relegation zone, two games into the campaign.

Murunga side struggled to get going in the game as they were let down by basic handling errors with the head coach admitting that they made schoolboy errors.

“Oilers is a team that has gelled for a while now, they played in the Kenya Cup final but on our side, we had silly mistakes that we could have easily converted into points.

We also need to sharpen up, especially in terms of attack, we had good forward play, good scrummages, good line outs but after that, we were not able to convert them into points,” said Murunga.

Quins have only scored a single try this season which came courtesy of Brian Waraba in the 24-10 loss to Menengai Oilers as they have struggled in attack.

Murunga also lamented the tough opening set of fixtures are they are set to face another one of last season’s finalists and reigning Kenya Cup champions Kabras in their next encounter.

“The game was a bit tough (against Oilers), we are in a season where the first game we played was against KCB then Oilers and next weekend we are playing against Kabras.

There are tough games of the season but it might be a blessing coming next year we will be playing against teams that we are sure we have prepared for,” added Murunga.
