The wait is finally over for Shujaa's fans as the team will make their highly anticipated return to the HSBC SVNS Series in November.
The team returned to the prestigious series after beating Germany 33-15 in the HSBC Sevens Challenger Series playoffs held back in June. The hard-fought victory set the stage for their comeback to the premier sevens rugby competition.
World Rugby on Thursday confirmed the first five destinations and dates of the Series.
The season kicks off with the Emirates Dubai Sevens from Saturday 30 November to Sunday 1 December 2024 at The Sevens Stadium. The teams will then move on to the DHL Stadium in Cape Town for the second round on Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 December.
The Series will then take a break to pave the way for the festive season before returning with the Perth Sevens slated for Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 January 2025.
Following that, competing teams will head to Canada from Friday 21 Sunday 23 February before the final circuit; Hong Kong 7s penciled for Friday 28 to Sunday 30 March in China.
Fans and players will wait longer to know the dates and destination of the Grand Final.
“Advanced discussions are ongoing with other host destinations and details of further SVNS 2025 events, including the Grand Final will be confirmed in due course,” World Rugby wrote.
Shujaa and Uruguay are the men’s teams making a return as a core nation, joining Argentina, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, France, Fiji, South Africa, Great Britain, USA and Spain.
The Kenyans were relegated from the prestigious global event in May 2023 after narrowly losing 12-5 to Canada in the relegation playoffs final at Twickenham Stadium in London.
The then Damian McGrath-coached side needed to win the final to become the 12th core team of the 2024 Series.
