The three nations that will join the national men’s rugby 15s side, Kenya Simbas, have been completed after Hong Kong joined the Repechage 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifiers.
Hong Kong lost 42-22 against Tonga as the latter punched a direct ticket to the World Cup while the former dropped to the Repechage to hand themselves a last shot at the intercontinental showpiece.
The four-nation Repechage qualifiers will now include Hong Kong, Kenya, Portugal, and the United States of America as they fight for the last slot at the Rugby World Cup that will be hosted in France.
Kenya were relegated to the Repechage after losing 36-0 to Namibia in the Africa Rugby World Cup qualifiers final where they had earlier beaten Uganda and Algeria to book a place in the final.
United States were a whisker away from sealing a direct ticket to the World Cup after winning the opening leg 22-21 and had a 20-point lead in the second leg in Colorado but Chile mounted an improbable comeback to win 31-29 to break the Americans heart at home.
Spain had already sealed a direct ticket to the Repechage but were deducted 10 points after fielding an eligible player, South Africa-born Gavin Van Den Berg handing Portugal a ticket to the Repechage.
The Repechage tournament is slated for November with the exact dates set to be made public.
