Kenya Sevens national team, Shujaa, remained on course to defending their Safari 7s title after delivering a commanding performance in the quarterfinals on Sunday, October 12, at Nyayo Stadium.
The hosts were in ruthless form, brushing aside Nyati RFC with a 40–0 win to storm into the semifinals.
They will be joined by fellow Kenyan side Morans, Zimbabwe, and the French Renegades, setting up what promises to be a thrilling semifinal showdown.
Shujaa cruise past Nyati
Shujaa made their intentions clear early in the match, with Chrissant Ojwang muscling through Nyati’s defense to open the scoring. Nygel Amaitsa converted successfully to give the hosts the lead.
Moments later, George Ooro showcased impressive skill before offloading to Dennis Abukuse, who crossed the line for the second try, which Amaitsa again converted.
The second half saw Shujaa tighten their grip on the match as Abukuse grabbed his second try, set up by Amaitsa, before Floyd Wabwire, Patrick Odongo, and Festus Shiasi each dotted down to complete the rout. Amaitsa was flawless with the boot, converting most of the tries to seal a 40–0 full-time score.
Morans edge UK select
In one of the day’s most closely contested quarterfinals, Morans narrowly edged UK Select 21–19 to secure their semifinal berth.
David Nyangige opened the scoring from a scrum before Rayvon Ambale added another try, converting both to put Morans ahead at halftime.
UK Select fought back strongly after the break, scoring twice to level the scores at 14–14. Morans were temporarily reduced to six men after Elvis Olukusi was sent to the sin bin.
Despite the setback, Victor Mola powered through to score the decisive try, though he appeared to sustain an arm injury in the process.
The conversion was good, and despite a late UK Select try, Morans held on for a dramatic 21–19 victory.
Zimbabwe too strong for KCB
Zimbabwe proved too strong for KCB, overturning an early deficit to win 19–10.
The Bankers made a bright start with tries from Jenkins Kipruto and Michael Wanjala, but Zimbabwe rallied in the second half to dominate proceedings and seal their semifinal place.
